The Value of Time

This weeks blog I’ve decided to write about the importance of time and how we spend it.  Time seems to move on whether we like it or not. Twenty-four hours can seem like a long time or it can seem very short.

I had a few opportunities during the holiday break to spend some quality time with people that mean a lot to me and jut talk about life and enjoy each other’s company. I got to see one of my best friends who doesn’t live near me anymore and get caught up on life. I got a baking day with a best friend who I’ve known since we were little. All our lives are crazy now and in different directions but nothing can replace the time spent with them.

I was thinking about how paramount it is to spend our time wisely. The people in our lives and the memories we make are what we will remember for a long time.

Ephesians 5:14-17

Therefore He saith: “Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.” See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, be ye not unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

I find that time a demand that this world puts on us. We have to be at work on time, we’re at work for a certain amount of time, we have obligations, and everything else that demands a time constraint.  That’s why when we have a minute to not care about time restrictions we should make the most out of it. Spend time doing a hobby, invest in people, have a coffee with an old friend, spend time with God, etc. This world is too rushed already.

I had an unexpected opportunity to have a day off this week and I was faced with the choice of just spending it at home resting or going out and enjoying a warm day after a couple weeks of bitterly cold weather. I decided to go snow shoeing with my boyfriend, Jacob. And it was absolutely beautiful. Walking through the bush with the snow on the trees and the sun shining through, I was reminded of how short time really is. It was so quiet and I got to spend quality time with one of my favourite people while doing an activity we both ended up loving. On top of that I got to enjoy God’s creation. It was a truly blessed day all around. I would rather remember this memory than have spent the day at home “wasting” a day off. Don’t get me wrong, having a day of nothing can be very beneficial as well.

In conclusion, time is a construct of this world and we do have to operate on the time schedule, but when given the chance just take your time and enjoy the moments and invest in your life and the life of others. God does not work on your time table and time does not mean anything to God. He will work in lives as quickly or slowly as he sees fit for His glory.

The time that we spend and the memories we make will be far more impacting than wasted time.
